We made a pact to get Wu-Tang logo tattoos before the summer ended, and since Screwnino was the artist of the crew, we’d let him design them. But my newly adopted religion prohibited getting tattoos—especially one that promoted idol worship—and I soon opted out of the agreement. By 1997, Wu-Tang Clan had achieved megastar status, with the reception of the group’s double-album, Wu-Tang Forever, hitting a global fever pitch. On its release day at record stores around the world, lines were hundreds of people deep. But to us, the synergy of ten unique emcees who based their aesthetic on kung-fu flicks, street culture, and the Islam-influenced Five-Percent Nation’s knowledge-of-self foundation was just too mighty to deny.

wu tang name-Tang Revealed, a GZA-directed documentary, promised to show behind the scenes of the Clan, has yet to be released. Several tracks by Clan members and affiliates such as Method Man, Ghostface, Cappadonna, Trife, DJ Mathematics and others were featured in the 2006 game Saints Row.

Wu-Tang Forever is the second studio album by the American hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan, released June 3, 1997, by Loud and RCA Records in the United States. Pressed as a double album, it was released after a long run of successful solo projects from various members of the group, and serves as the follow-up to their debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). RZA and GZA fell heavily under the influence of those dubbed Chinese films, which often starred Lee or were produced by Hong Kong’s Shaw Brothers Studio. Meth took his name from the 1979 Jimmy Shaw-directed martial arts film Method Man. The impact of kung-fu cinema―and animation series like The Marvel Super Heroes―would be heard (and seen) throughout the collective’s oeuvre. The 1980s rap band Stetsasonic had numbered five members.
